MSP® training programmes
Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) is a methodology that comprises a set of principles and processes for use when managing a programme. A programme is made up of a specific set of projects identified by an organisation that together will deliver some defined objective, or set of objectives, for the organisation. The objectives, or goals, of the programme are typically at a strategic level so that the organisation can achieve benefits and improvements in its business operation.

MSP training FAQs
What is MSP training?
Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) training teaches a structured approach to programme management. It aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to lead, manage and deliver programmes that align with organisational objectives and deliver value to stakeholders.
Learners will develop an understanding of the principles, structures and processes needed for effective programme management. They will come away from the course having learnt strategies for better stakeholder engagement, risk management, benefits management and more.
How long is the MSP course?
Our e-learning, virtual and classroom course durations are:
- E-learning: With our MSP e-learning you’ll have access to the course materials for 12 months. The Foundation course is expected to take approximately 18 hours, and the Practitioner course is expected to take approximately 24 hours to complete
- Virtual: The Foundation course is three days long, and the Practitioner course is two days - you can complete both within a week
- Classroom: These in-person workshops follow the same structure as the virtual courses - three days for the Foundation and two days for the Practitioner course
What is the difference between MSP and PRINCE2®?
MSP and PRINCE2 are both widely recognised methodologies, and while they are complementary to each other they serve different purposes.
PRINCE2 is one of the best-known methodologies for managing projects, globally. MSP is a programme management framework from the same product suite at PeopleCert (the accrediting body), and is therefore an excellent follow-on course from PRINCE2.
MSP has a more strategic approach, while PRINCE2 provides a more tactical focus. Using the two together means organisations can ensure that their project management approach is aligned with their overall strategy, while still maintaining a focus on delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the required level of quality.
Is the MSP certification worth it?
If you are hoping to succeed in programme management, or another related career, an MSP certification can enhance your credentials and open doors to higher-paying positions. The qualification will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to manage complex programmes and to ensure they are aligned with organisational objectives - enhancing your credibility when applying for future jobs roles or seeking out opportunities for career progression.
How long does an MSP qualification last?
All PeopleCert certifications, including MSP, require renewal after three years. There are multiple ways an individual can renew their certification.
To find out more about the certification renewal process, visit the PeopleCert website.
