Increasing Graduate Employability in 2021

Graduate outcomes took a hit during the pandemic.

Fewer work experience placements and graduate roles, along with less access to on-the-job training, has meant that graduates who lack key skills are entering the job market at a massive disadvantage. This is particularly problematic for graduates of more traditional degree courses that don’t necessarily drive people towards a certain career or job role.

We’ve identified three skill gaps that are impacting graduate employability. These are:

  • Project management
  • Technical skills, especially in coding and programming
  • Data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning

In this guide, we discuss how university deans can incorporate these business-ready skills into their education programmes to help their students become more employable once they graduate. We’ll also share a real-life example of how ILX helped a leading university provide training that helped students to compete for in-demand graduate roles.
