ISTQB Foundation Model Based Tester Extension Virtual

The ISTQB Foundation Level Model Based Tester Extension course extends the broad understanding of testing acquired at Foundation Level to enable the role of Model Based Test Analyst to be performed.

About the course

This non-accredited two-day tutor-led course includes lectures, exercises and practical work, as well as exam preparation. The examination is held a few days after the course, thereby allowing adequate time for revision. It is has been rated SFIAplus level 3 by the BCS.

What is virtual classroom training?

Virtual instructor-led training combines the personal teaching experience of a classroom, with the ease and flexibility of a virtual environment. Virtual courses are interactive and engaging, allowing participants to communicate with both the instructor and each other in a collaborative manner.

Duration

This is a two day intensive virtual course.

Certified Model Based Testers who have passed the Foundation Level “Certified Model Based Testing” exam should be able to accomplish the following Business Objectives:

  • Collaborate in a model-based testing team using standard terminology and established MBT concepts, processes and techniques.
  • Apply and integrate model-based testing in a test process.
  • Effectively create and maintain MBT models using established techniques and best practices of model-based testing.
  • Select, create and maintain test artefacts from MBT models considering risk and value of the features tested.
  • Support the organization to improve its quality assurance process to be more constructive and efficient.

In addition, Certified Model Based Testers should be able to demonstrate their skills in the following areas once they have completed the course and passed the exam:

  • Objectives and motivations for model-based testing
  • Activities specific to MBT and essential MBT artefacts
  • Integrating MBT into the software development lifecycle
  • MBT modelling (good practices, languages, types of MBT models)
  • Test selection criteria used in model-based testing
  • MBT test implementation and execution
  • Evaluating and deploying an MBT Approach
  • Introduction to model based testing 
  • MBT modelling
  • Selection criteria for test case generation
  • MBT test implementation and execution
  • Evaluationg and deploying an MBT approach

This is an intensive two-day virtual course that includes the following:

  • The cost of the exam 

Delegates will be provided with a Pearson VUE exam voucher one week prior to course commencement. This enables you to book and sit your exam at your local Pearson VUE testing centre at a time and date convenient to you.  Pearson VUE centres are worldwide, and you will be able to choose the closest testing centre to you. You then go along to the test centre with your photo ID at the specified date and time and you will then take an electronic exam. Your exam voucher will have an expiration date and your exam must be sat before this date as these vouchers cannot be extended.

Exam format

To qualify as an internationally-recognized Certified Foundation Model Based Extension Level Tester and be issued with an ISTQB® Model Based Tester Foundation Extension Level Certificate, delegates must successfully pass the exam administered by the relevant National Board or Examination Provider.

  • The examination consists of a one-hour exam with 40 multiple choice questions.
  • It will be a ‘closed book’ examination i.e. no notes or books will be allowed into the examination room.
  • Duration of 60 minutes (or 75 minutes for candidates taking examinations that are not in their native language). The pass mark is 65% (26 out of 40).

The Model Based Testing Foundation course is suitable for those who are, or expect to be, working on project that require development and testing of data models. It is aimed at those who seek a practical application of the core software testing material covered at ISTQB Foundation level on all projects that work with data models.

The course is for Test Analysts, Test Team Leader, Data Modelers and all people who will be developing data models for testing and use in subsequent test automation.

The recommended entry criteria for candidates taking the Model Based Testing Foundation course are as follows:

  • Have 18 months’ experience in software testing.
  • Hold the ISTQB Foundation in Software Testing certificate.
