About the course

Management of Risk (M_o_R)® is a generic framework for the management of risk across all parts of an organisation — strategic, programme, project and operational. It incorporates all the activities required to identify and control the exposure to any type of risk, positive or negative, which may have an impact on the achievement of your organisation’s business objectives.

The purpose of the Foundation qualification is to confirm that a you have the necessary knowledge and understanding to contribute to the identification, assessment and control of risks across any organisational perspective. While the Practitioner qualification will ensure you have achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor M_o_R in a scenario situation.

What is virtual training?
Virtual training incorporates both the personal teaching experience of a classroom, with the ease and flexibility of a virtual environment. Our virtual courses are interactive and engaging, allowing participants to communicate with both the instructor and each other in a collaborative manner. Please review our FAQs for more information relating to virtual learning, including the technical specifications.

Duration

This is an intensive five-day course that prepares you for the M_o_R Foundation and Practitioner examinations. The training is conducted via a virtual training environment. You need to ensure that you can satisfy the technical requirements that can be found here. In addition, whilst attending your course, there will also be some examination preparation evening work.

Foundation Learning Objectives

By the end of the Foundation course you should understand the structure, basic concepts and terminology within the M_o_R Guide. Specifically, you should for any organizational perspective:

  • Know the facts, terms, concepts and relationships between the four elements of the M_o_R framework (principles, approach, processes and embedding and reviewing)
  • Understand how the M_o_R principles, approach, and processes are used
  • Be able to identify the M_o_R framework documents and understand their uses and differences

Practitioner Learning Objectives

By the end of the Practitioner course you should be able to apply and understand how to tailor M_o_R effectively within an organization environment supporting M_o_R. Specifically you should for any organizational perspective:

  • Understand the relationships between the four elements of the M_o_R framework
  • Be able to apply the principles, approach, processes and techniques
  • Be able to review and make recommendations to embed the M_o_R framework
  • Be able to create and assess any of the M_o_R framework documents

The Practitioner element of the course follows the Practitioner syllabus and focuses on the application of all the areas covered in the M_o_R Foundation course. It provides delegates with the opportunity to practice Practitioner style questions in preparation for the Practitioner paper by integrating the following:

  • A review of the entire M_o_R approach
  • Syndicate and individual scenario-based exercises

This is an intensive five-day virtual course that includes the following:

  • All accompanying course material (digital)
  • Online pre-course
  • The official M_o_R manual (digital)
  • The cost of the M_o_R Foundation and Practitioner examinations (valid for 12 months from purchase date. Exams must be taken online via remote proctor)

Materials

Digital ILX course materials: These will be accessible via the ILX portal. Full instructions with a link to the portal will be issued within 48 hours of your confirmed booking.The course materials will be provided in a PDF format and available for download. You will need to download and save the materials to your device, so that you can annotate them during the training course.

Digital official manual: You will be sent an email invitation approximately two working days prior to course commencement to register on the Peoplecert portal. Once registered you will be able to access the digital version of your manual. Please note: There is a 5-year limitation in accessing your eBook.

Hardcopy official manual: If you decide to purchase the hardcopy official manual as an optional extra your manual will be shipped to your chosen address within 48 hours of purchase.

Exams are taken online via remote proctor. You will be sent an email invitation approximately two working days prior to course commencement to register on the Peoplecert portal. Once registered you will be able to book your online exam at a date and time of your choice. You are responsible for booking your own exam. Recertification: This certification has a renew within three years of the award date to remain current. There are multiple ways to recertify, more information regarding the options can be found here.

Exam format

Foundation exam format

  •  Multiple-choice exam
  • 1-hour duration
  • 75 questions (including five trial questions)
  • 50% pass mark (35/70)
  • Closed-book


Practitioner exam format

  • Objective testing
  • 3-hour duration
  • Four questions per paper, 20 marks available per question
  • 50% pass mark (40/80)
  • Open book (details below)

Candidates may make use of the Management of Risk: Guidance for Practitioners (the Management of Risk ‘guide’), together with the ABC Guide Part A Example Techniques guidance document. No material other than the question booklet, the scenario booklet, the answer booklet and the two guides is to be used.

This qualification is aimed at anyone working within a corporate governance environment that has responsibilities for identifying, assessing, planning, or managing risks, or reporting on risk management activities across the organisation. It is best suited to people in the following job roles:

  • Business Change Managers
  • Programme and Project Managers
  • Risk Managers
  • Business, programme and project support staff and managers
  • Operational staff and managers

Pre-course

A concentrated course that requires you to complete mandatory online pre-course study, which is designed to take approximately 6–8 hours to complete. Full instructions with a link to the online pre-course will be issued within 48 hours of your confirmed booking.
