FIFE Council improves project management consistency with ILX's APM training
...FIFE Council used APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management e-Learning from ILX to implement a basic project management training course across the organisation that would not only further develop and improve employee skills but also increase productivity...
Like many councils across the UK, Fife Council has the responsibility of delivering a wide range of projects whilst carefully managing the allocation of public money. To consistently deliver on this responsibility, the council sought to implement a basic project management (PM) training course across the organisation that would not only further develop and improve employee skills but also increase productivity.
Coupled with the council's desire to make e-learning available to all employees via desk top PCs, the ILX Group's APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management computer based training package was selected. The course offered an internationally accredited and comprehensive introduction to project management - delivered directly through the user's PC.
Previously employees taking such courses would have had to drive to the council's head office and use one of the five designated computers. The new APM Introductory Certificate package was made available on the intranet and is now accessible via any of the council's 12,000 PC's.
The package was hosted by the ILX Group on a dedicated server and linked directly to the council's network - ensuring there were no firewall issues and the implementation was supported by the ILX Group's technical team.
In less than three months, more than 30 employees had started the course. By negotiating an "unlimited user" option, the council's target is for more than 100 employees to take the course in year one, with cost savings being achieved once an initial group of 40 employees is reached.
The course, specifically designed to be as interactive and user friendly as possible, can be followed at the user's own pace and at the convenience of their own desk. The "bookmark function" also allowed employees to dip in and out depending on other work or time constraints.
John Arthur, organisational development advisor and head of e-learning for Fife Council, commented:
He continued:
Fife Council continues to use instructor led training for some of its more advanced courses, however it is now looking at the feasibility to extend the AMP Introductory Certificate training to home based employees.
