About the course

Project Planning & Control supports the publication of the APM's guide, ‘Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring and Control – The Practical Project Management of Time, Cost and Risk.’ It provides guidance and best practice for project planning and control and is applicable across all industries and sectors.

A successful Practitioner candidate will have demonstrated that they have achieved sufficient understanding of the theory and application of the tools and techniques to allow them to work successfully in a Project Support team environment.

Duration

This is a two day classroom course that includes the PPC Practitioner exam on the last day.

By attending this course, you will learn…

  • The approaches and key products used to gain a clear definition of a project
  • The approaches and techniques used to plan and close a project
  • The scheduling techniques and appropriate presentation of the outputs
  • The management of risk in the planning, execution and evaluation of a project
  • The practices and data used for rigorous monitoring to enable proactive control of the project

This course covers the following modules:

  • Project definition
  • Breakdown structures
  • Schedules
  • Critical path analysis & constraints
  • Estimating & resourcing
  • Baselines and performance reporting
  • Earned value management (EVM)
  • Risk management

This is an intensive two-day course that includes the following:

  • All accompanying course material
  • The cost of the Practitioner examination (taken within the duration of the course)

Important: Please note you will require a copy of the “The Planning, Scheduling, Monitoring and Control – The Practical Project Management of Time, Cost and Risk” manual for the course and exam. Practitioner exam:

  • Complex multiple choice
  • 8 question paper with 10 marks available per question
  • 40 marks required to pass (out of 80 available) – 50%
  • 200 minute (3 hrs 20 mins) duration
  • Open-book (Project Planning & Control guide only)

It is recommended that a Practitioner candidate has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a planning and monitoring role. In addition, you must have passed the PPC Foundation exam prior to undertaking the Practitioner examination.

Pre-course

There is mandatory pre-course work that must be under taken prior to attending this course. It is expected that it will take approximately one hour to complete. In addition, whilst attending the course there will also be some exam preparation evening work.
